Mrs. Olu Arowolo Verheijen
Special Adviser to the President on Energy Matters, Federal Republic of Nigeria
Mrs. Verheijen is the Special Adviser on Energy to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria, appointed in 2023. A seasoned energy professional, she holds a B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) from Long Island University and a Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
With nearly 20 years of experience in gas, renewables and energy policy across Sub-Saharan Africa, she has worked in senior roles at Shell Nigeria Limited, the investment firm Persistent, and currently serves as Managing Director of Latimer Energy.
In her capacity as Special Adviser, Mrs. Verheijen has been charged with coordinating inter-agency reforms that drive Nigeria’s energy transition, improve fiscal competitiveness in the oil & gas sector, scale investment in gas infrastructure and promote inclusive, technology-enabled energy access. Her leadership emphasises smart policy, efficient project execution and leveraging Nigeria’s energy assets to support economic growth, local content and a sustainable future.
Mrs. Verheijen is also the Founder of the BFA Foundation, an organisation that provides scholarships for women and other under-represented groups in high-growth sectors.
