Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Federal Republic of Nigeria
Distinguished Senator George Akume, CON, is Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), appointed on June 7, 2023, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. A statesman of rare experience, he brings over four decades of leadership across the executive, legislative, and ministerial arms of government.
He previously served as Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs (2019–2023), Senator for Benue North-West (2007–2019) — where he was Senate Minority Leader (2011–2015) — and Governor of Benue State (1999–2007), the first under Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.
Born on December 27, 1953, in Wannune, Tarka LGA of Benue State, Senator Akume holds a B.Sc. in Sociology (1978) and M.Sc. in Industrial and Labour Relations (1986) from the University of Ibadan. His career in the Benue State Civil Service distinguished him as an astute administrator before entering national politics.
A key architect of Nigeria’s democratic consolidation, he is a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a firm advocate of policy harmonization, local content advancement, and inter-governmental cooperation.
Honoured with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), Senator Akume remains one of Nigeria’s most respected political figures — admired for his humility, experience, and steadfast dedication to national development and unity.
Founder of PLO Lumumba Foundation, Kenya
Professor PLO Lumumba is a distinguished legal practitioner, academic, and public intellectual whose voice resonates across Africa and the global diaspora. Born in Kenya in 1962, he holds an LL.B and LL.M from the University of Nairobi, a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and a PhD in Laws from Ghent University, Belgium. He served as the Director of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission and later as Director of the Kenya School of Law, where he championed legal reforms and institutional integrity. As the founder of the PLO Lumumba Foundation, he has mentored thousands of young Africans in leadership, ethics, and civic responsibility. Professor Lumumba is widely recognized for his electrifying speeches and writings on Pan-Africanism, constitutionalism, and anti-corruption. He has delivered keynote addresses in over 40 countries, inspiring audiences with his call for African self-determination, unity, and innovation. At the Solewant Group 9th Energy Summit, Professor Lumumba will deliver the second keynote speech, bringing his visionary insights on governance, sustainability, and Africa’s energy future to a distinguished gathering of policymakers, technocrats, and industry leaders.
FNSE: Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB)
Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe is the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), shouldered with the responsibility for promoting indigenous participation and capacity development in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. He was appointed to this position by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 7 December 2023. Engineer Ogbe has over three decades of experience in the oil, gas, and infrastructure sectors, with great contributions in the areas of design, construction, and delivery of several landmark energy projects both within and outside Nigeria. Prior to his appointment, he held senior management roles with Chevron Nigeria Limited, where he led multi-disciplinary teams on onshore and offshore developments, including the Escravos Gas-to-Liquids Project. He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and an M.Sc. in Construction Management, and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) as well as a Registered Member of COREN. As Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Engr. Ogbe has provided strategic leadership in implementing the Board’s 10-Year Strategic Roadmap, which seeks to increase Nigerian Content in the oil and gas industry to 70 percent by 2027. His leadership emphasizes efficiency, collaboration with industry stakeholders, local manufacturing, and the integration of Nigerian Content into emerging energy transition opportunities.
Special Adviser to the President on Energy Matters, Federal Republic of Nigeria
Mrs. Verheijen is the Special Adviser on Energy to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria, appointed in 2023. A seasoned energy professional, she holds a B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) from Long Island University and a Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School. With nearly 20 years of experience in gas, renewables and energy policy across Sub-Saharan Africa, she has worked in senior roles at Shell Nigeria Limited, the investment firm Persistent, and currently serves as Managing Director of Latimer Energy. In her capacity as Special Adviser, Mrs. Verheijen has been charged with coordinating inter-agency reforms that drive Nigeria’s energy transition, improve fiscal competitiveness in the oil & gas sector, scale investment in gas infrastructure and promote inclusive, technology-enabled energy access. Her leadership emphasises smart policy, efficient project execution and leveraging Nigeria’s energy assets to support economic growth, local content and a sustainable future. Mrs. Verheijen is also the Founder of the BFA Foundation, an organisation that provides scholarships for women and other under-represented groups in high-growth sectors.
Group Managing Director/CEO Union Bank
Mrs. Yetunde Bolanle Oni (born October 24, 1969) is a Nigerian banking executive with over 30 years of experience in emerging markets, specializing in client solutions, relationship management, risk mitigation, and leadership. A University of Ibadan graduate with a Bachelor's (Honours) in Economics, she holds an MBA from Bangor University and has completed executive programs at Oxford Business School and INSEAD. Oni began her career in 1991 at Prime Merchant Bank in Treasury & Money Markets, later joining Ecobank Nigeria (1994–2005) as a Relationship Manager for institutional banking. She spent nearly two decades at Standard Chartered Bank, rising from Senior Relationship Manager in Nigeria (2005) to Head of Local Corporates (2010), Managing Director & Country Head of Commercial Banking in West Africa (2014), and becoming the first female MD/CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Sierra Leone in 2021, where she drove 50% income growth and 116% profit increase in 2022. Appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria on January 10, 2024, as GMD/CEO of Union Bank amid a leadership overhaul, she is an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, WIMBIZ associate, and member of the Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce.
Ag. Regional Chief Operating Officer Head of Mission (Anglophone West Africa) Afreximbank
Alain-Thierry (AT) Mbongue Ebollo, MBA, is a seasoned banking executive currently serving as the Acting Regional Chief Operating Officer and Head of Mission for Anglophone West Africa at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), based in Abuja, Nigeria. Born in Cameroon, Mbongue holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Management Economics from the Catholic University of Central Africa in Yaoundé. He joined Afreximbank in November 2015, where he has held various leadership roles, including Regional Manager for Francophone West Africa and Head of Mission. Prior to Afreximbank, Mbongue spent six years as Vice-President and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking at Citi Congo. Before that, he worked for eight years at Citi Cameroon in positions such as Vice President, Public Sector Head, Senior Relationship Manager, Trade Product Manager, and Credit Analyst. His career began with five years at Standard Chartered Bank in Cameroon, serving as Relationship Manager, Credit Analyst, and Trade Finance Officer. Mbongue is actively involved in promoting African trade and finance, participating in events like the Afreximbank Compliance Forum and contributing to initiatives such as the Africa Trade Gateway.
